A Desk Inspired by Ancient Chinese Architecture

This desk stands out with its distinctive design, taking cues from the wooden frames used in traditional Chinese architecture. The intricate structural beauty of these ancient buildings is translated into a captivating piece of furniture.

The Rhythm desk features a Chinese tenon and mortise structure, adding to its authenticity and strength. The design process meticulously considers the inspiration derived from the wooden structures of Chinese ancient architecture, resulting in a desk that embodies the essence of traditional craftsmanship.

The desk is crafted using a combination of CNC technology and manual grinding, with black walnut as the primary material. This blend of modern manufacturing techniques and traditional woodworking methods ensures the highest quality and durability.

With dimensions of 1800mm x 800mm x 700mm, the Rhythm desk offers ample space for users to work and create. Its thoughtful design also allows for seamless interaction with guests, making it a versatile piece for both professional and social settings.

The Rhythm desk was designed in Shenyang, China, from September 2021 to March 2022, and was showcased at the SYID art furniture exhibition. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted on Chinese ancient wooden buildings, analyzing their structural stability and design aesthetics.

One of the main challenges faced during the design process was striking the right balance between simplicity and structural stability. The desk achieves a remarkable level of stability without the need for additional hardware, showcasing the designer's ingenuity and expertise.

The Rhythm desk, made from black walnut wood, is not only a functional office furniture piece but also a testament to the beauty and elegance of Chinese architectural heritage. Its size and ergonomic design ensure optimal comfort for users, making it a perfect addition to any workspace.

The Rhythm desk has been recognized for its exceptional design and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate outstanding technical and creative skills while contributing to improvements in quality of life.
